Mr. Takashi Fujiki has been a researcher with Port and Airport Research Institute in Japan since 2013. His research focuses on understanding the locality and seasonality on the directional wave spectrum in the coastal area. He received a BA and MS from Kyoto University and started working to obtain Ph.D. from Oct in 2018.
In general, co-existing wave systems with wind waves and swell show multimodality in wave spectrum. Such multimodality gives variability on our evaluation of wave period and direction; therefore, wave forcing used in the coastal process model also can show variability. To handle multimodal spectral data rationally, we proposed a new spectral partitioning method based on Gaussian Mixture Model. Analysis techniques and results of the application for in-situ and model wave data will be presented.
